AUSTIN (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program could not have asked for a better start to the first full day of the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas in Austin. UNLV notched victories in the hammer throw and the 4x800m relay, while its 400m hurdler advanced to Saturday's final.

Amanda Bingson, a 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field All-American, topped all hammer throw participants with a toss of 220-7 (67.24). Danielle Rios finished 15th with a measurement of 173-8 (52.94m).

The 4x800m quartet of Laura Affeld, Alison Bartosch, Brett Zorich and Kelsey Williamson crossed the finish line in 8:39.22, which was more than seven seconds faster than its closest competitor and breaking the previous UNLV school record by 23 seconds.

Christine Lowe finished eighth overall and third in her preliminary heat in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.51. Lowe was one of nine to advance to Saturday's finale. There were a total of eight heats and 60 individuals competing in the event.

The Rebels are back in action Friday at the Texas Relays in seven events. UNLV will have runners going in the 100m (Emily Blok and Zadia Bryant), 100m hurdles (Erin Morris), 4x100m relay (Bryant, Uchechi Anunkor, Secoral Yanez, Blok) and 4x400m relay (Yanez, Blok, Williamson and Zorich). Three Rebels - Myshauna Alexander (javelin), Deja Edwards (long jump) and Ashley Henry (high jump) will represent the Scarlet and Gray in the field.
